United Nations Climate Change Conference dubbed (COP30) ongoing at Belém in Brazil will zoom on the mining sector.
According to ICMM team, this year, mining and metals are higher on the agenda than ever – driven by geopolitical considerations.
In addition, there is recognition that mining and metals are part of the climate challenge, and an indispensable to the solution.
The ICMM’s delegation is expected to highlight how responsible mining and metals practices can help deliver global climate goals, protect nature and bolster local economic development – contributing to a just transition for communities.
“A whole-ecosystem approach is essential to align the sector’s total footprint with the goals of the Paris Agreement, and we’re keen collaborate with downstream customers, policymakers, academia, civil society, financial institutions, and other stake- and rights-holders to drive the systems change needed.”
