As Namibia positions itself as Africa’s next major oil and gas producer, a new player has emerged to support global investors entering the country’s energy and mining landscape. Alvenco Advisory, led by former Minister of Mines and Energy Tom Alweendo, has officially launched to provide strategic guidance to companies seeking to navigate Namibia’s rapidly evolving energy sector.
With oil production expected to begin by 2029, Namibia is experiencing a wave of investment from global energy giants, independent producers and regional players. These companies are eager to tap into the potential of the Orange Basin and beyond. Alvenco Advisory offers a gateway for these investors, providing critical support in areas such as policy navigation, regulatory engagement, stakeholder alignment and environmental, social and governance compliance.
Tom Alweendo brings a wealth of experience to the role. In addition to serving as Minister of Mines and Energy, he has held prominent positions such as Governor of the Bank of Namibia and Director General of the National Planning Commission. During his time as minister, Alweendo oversaw Namibia’s major oil discoveries and helped shape investor-friendly policies that laid the foundation for the country’s current momentum.
“Namibia is on the cusp of extraordinary change,” Alweendo said. “With major oil discoveries and bold steps into green hydrogen, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to ensure that our natural resources uplift all Namibians. Alvenco Advisory will not only support global investors in Namibia, but ensure their investments unlock tangible opportunities for the people of Namibia.”
Alvenco Advisory will work closely with both government institutions and private companies to create investment strategies that are inclusive, sustainable and profitable. The firm aims to help investors align their goals with Namibia’s national priorities, while also fostering local participation and long-term impact.
The timing of the firm’s launch coincides with accelerated activity in Namibia’s energy sector. TotalEnergies is advancing its Venus discovery with a final investment decision expected in 2026 and first oil targeted for 2029. Galp continues to develop the Mopane field, with promising results from exploration wells. Rhino Resources has made significant progress at the Capricornus-1X and Sagittarius-1X wells, while Halliburton and Stamper Oil & Gas Corp pursue exploration efforts in the Orange and Lüderitz Basins. Chevron has entered the Walvis Basin through a major acquisition, underscoring growing confidence in Namibia’s hydrocarbon potential.
Namibia is also gaining global attention for its green hydrogen ambitions. The country aims to produce between 10 and 15 million tons annually by 2050. Projects like the $10 billion Hyphen Hydrogen Energy initiative and the Daures Green Hydrogen Village are central to this vision. Additionally, the Hylron Oshivela Project, launched in March 2025, is already producing green hydrogen using 12 MW of electrolyzer capacity. A recent partnership with the European Union is expected to unlock $12 billion in European private investment to support Namibia’s hydrogen goals.
As Namibia’s energy landscape expands across oil, gas and renewables, Alvenco Advisory is poised to become a vital partner for companies seeking to invest with impact. With Alweendo at the helm, the firm combines deep local knowledge with a global outlook, offering tailored support to ensure investor success and national benefit.
