Chamber of Mines of Namibia Retains Leadership

The Chamber of Mines of Namibia confirmed its executive committee leadership will remain in office for the 2026–2027 term, opting for continuity as the industry navigates policy engagement and operational coordination in the resource-rich African nation.

No new elections were held at the organization’s 47th annual general meeting on May 21, in line with constitutional provisions allowing the current leadership team to extend their roles until the next AGM in 2027, the Chamber said in a statement.

George Botshiwe, managing director of QKR Navachab Gold Mine, will continue as president. He is supported by John Roos, country manager of B2Gold Namibia, as first vice president, and Irvinne Simataa, executive vice president of Swakop Uranium, who retains his seat as second vice president.

The executive committee will be joined by Fabian Shaanika in his capacity as the Chamber’s newly appointed chief executive officer. Shaanika joins the leadership team with nearly two decades of experience spanning mining operations, investment banking, and project development. His career includes senior stints at Kelp Blue, Rand Merchant Bank Namibia, Standard Bank Namibia, Namdeb, Skorpion Zinc, and Debmarine Namibia.

The Chamber, which represents the country’s major mining operators, credited the executive committee for its steering of the sector through 2025 and said it expects continued regulatory and operational progress over the coming term. Mining remains a critical pillar of Namibia’s economy, driven heavily by diamond recovery, uranium production, and gold extraction.
