Komatsu announces leadership changes

Important leadership changes at Komatsu Africa Holdings (KAfH) are scheduled to begin on April 1, 2025. As a result of the reorganization, Wicus Burger becomes the new Managing Director and Mike Blom, a seasoned Komatsu executive, becomes the Chairman.

To aid in the leadership transition, Yusuke Shimazaki has also been named Deputy Managing Director.

After more than four decades at Komatsu, Blom moves into the role of Chairman, bringing extensive experience and leadership expertise. He joined Komatsu in 1981 and has held several high-ranking positions, including Managing Director of Komatsu since 2008 and President and Managing Director of KAfH since 2020. His tenure has also included serving as a Global Executive Officer at Komatsu Limited in Japan.

Reflecting on his journey, Blom expressed confidence in the new leadership team, stating, “Leading Komatsu Africa Holdings has been an incredible journey. I am proud of what we have achieved together and confident that Wicus and Yusuke will steer the company toward further growth and success.”

Wicus Burger takes over as Managing Director of Komatsu Africa Holdings after serving as Managing Director of Komatsu Namibia and most recently residing in North America. Burger is anticipated to contribute significant leadership and important insight to Komatsu’s activities in Southern Africa, given his solid track record in the company's mining and construction industries.

Building trust and accomplishing our shared goal will remain at the center of our organization.

“I’m excited to collaborate with our staff, clients, and communities to leave a good, long-lasting impact,” Burger said.

Yusuke Shimazaki’s new position will be crucial to the smooth transition of the company’s leadership. Shimazaki has a wealth of expertise in Komatsu’s mining division across several international markets, having spent the last three years as Director of Corporate Strategy and Business Development at KAfH. His hiring enhances the business’ customer-focused philosophy and strategic direction.

In an industry that is changing, Komatsu Africa Holdings stressed that these leadership changes are in line with its dedication to expansion, innovation, and customer satisfaction. Customers and stakeholders were reassured by the company that the transition will go smoothly and that its leadership team is still committed to providing top-notch solutions throughout the area.

With these strategic appointments, Komatsu Africa Holdings is set to build on its strong foundations and continue driving progress in the heavy equipment and mining sectors throughout Southern Africa.
