A new era in Namibia’s energy industry has begun with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR) and worldwide offshore engineering powerhouse Subsea7.
Several recent finds have placed Namibia on the map as a growing participant in oil and gas exploration, and the deal comes at a time when interest in the country’s offshore potential is heightened. The offshore infrastructure development initiatives of NAMCOR and Subsea7 will focus on subsea systems, including umbilicals, risers, and flowlines, or SURF for short.
However, pipelines and hardware aren’t the only topics of the cooperation. It’s also a promise to invest in technical training and skill transfer so that the country can build a workforce that can meet its energy needs now and in the future.
The Interim Managing Director of NAMCOR, Victoria Sibeya, described such collaborations as “critical” as the organization begins to lay the groundwork for a robust oil and gas sector. “Working together like this enables us to tap into international knowledge while simultaneously preparing Namibians to lead the way in the industry.”
With a reputation for safety, creativity, and eco-friendly solutions, Subsea7 delivers decades of experience to difficult offshore projects worldwide. By drawing on that body of information, NAMCOR intends to strengthen its ability to spearhead significant advancements while maintaining a focus on sustainability.
In addition to facilitating fast and responsible growth, the cooperation is anticipated to assist Namibia in strategically navigating the ever-changing global energy landscape.
This MoU shows that Namibia is prepared to take major measures toward energy security, economic growth, and global competitiveness, as NAMCOR positions itself as a crucial participant in harnessing the offshore potential of the country.
