CRONIMET Mining Power Solutions GmbH’s solar power plant will supply Midgard Country Lodge with clean energy.
The power plant a property owned and operated by Ohlthaver & List (O&L) Leisure in the heart of Namibia went into operations last December.
The plant will not only reduce Midgard’s electricity costs significantly, but also lowers the carbon emissions of the energy intensive operations covering Midgard’s total daytime energy demand.
The photovoltaic (PV) plant with an installed capacity of 128 kilowatt at peak (kWp) was built by CRONIMET Mining Power Solutions GmbH as an EPC contractor on behalf of O&L Energy who is the IPP owner.
The plant is further partly subsidized by the German Investment and Development Organisation (DEG) and will serve as a demonstration plant for technical skill transfer, on-the-job training and vocational workshops.
According to Steffen Kammerer, Managing Director of CRONIMET, the completion of the plant at Midgard Country Lodge is a milestone.
“The Midgard project is the very first project we realized with a partner from the hospitality industry. However, it emphasizes our ambition to support the African hospitality industry going green.
“Our PV plants ensure hoteliers a reliable off-grid and eco-friendly energy supply at a reliably favourable price.”, Kammerer said.
Besides Midgard Country Lodge, CRONIMET is currently constructing a PV plant at Mokuti Etosha Logde, which is also a property owned and operated by O&L Leisure.
CRONIMET further not only ensures the energy supply of the lodge but also provides an energy efficiency consulting to the lodge’s management.
Digital meters have been installed in order to create a load profile with which CRONIMET is now able give advice regarding an efficient energy usage.
CRONIMET Mining Power Solutions GmbH is a German-based renewable energy company founded in 2013 that develops, builds, finances, owns and operates utility scale solar PV power plants and mini-grids across sub-Saharan Africa.
