Deep Yellow Limited has moved to lock in early-stage execution capacity at its flagship Tumas Project, awarding two major civil and concrete contracts as it advances towards a final investment decision (FID) expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The contracts, with a combined estimated value of approximately A$34 million, have been awarded to Namibia Construction Pty Ltd and Nexus Building and Civils Contractors Pty Ltd following a competitive tender process. Both companies are 100% Namibian-owned, aligning with the company’s local content strategy.
The awards mark a shift from planning to structured pre-development execution, securing critical construction capability ahead of FID while preserving flexibility on the overall project timeline. Mobilisation is scheduled to begin in August 2026, with work delivered in phases to enable multiple construction fronts without altering the project’s anticipated 24 month build schedule post-FID.
Managing Director and CEO Greg Field said the approach reflects a deliberate strategy to reduce delivery risk ahead of full project sanction. “These awards represent another important milestone in our disciplined approach to project development. Our objective has always been to systematically remove execution risk, secure high-quality contractors and ensure the Project is positioned for efficient delivery as we advance toward FID towards the end of this year,” said Field.
He added, “Civil and concrete works are fundamental to the successful delivery of any major processing facility. Securing these capabilities now creates multiple construction work fronts, increasing execution flexibility and strengthening confidence in execution once FID is reached.” The scope of work spans core processing infrastructure, including reinforced concrete installations, precast elements and run-of-mine retaining structures, forming a critical foundation for subsequent plant construction.
Beyond execution, the contract awards reinforce Deep Yellow’s localisation strategy, with both contractors expected to deploy predominantly Namibian workforces. Field noted the importance of this approach, stating, “Developing Tumas in partnership with local industry is central to our strategy and reflects our commitment to delivering long-term value for Namibia alongside our shareholders.” The developer secured early works packages ahead of FID, balancing risk reduction with capital discipline while ensuring projects are positioned for rapid scale-up once investment approval is secured.
