A junior explorer with high-grade surface results and fully permitted projects is preparing to make its case to Australian capital markets, with Namibia’s largely underexplored Kaoko Copper Belt at the centre of its pitch. Kaoko Metals (ASX: KAO) is advancing towards its ASX debut with a planned raise of approximately A$6.5 million.
The company’s Managing Director Gerard O’Donovan noted that it has received strong backing. Following the raise, the company expects a market capitalisation of around A$12.1 million and approximately A$6.8 million in cash, sufficient to move quickly from listing to on-the-ground exploration. The flagship asset is located in the Kaoko Copper Belt, where the company holds an extensive land package targeting sediment-hosted copper-silver mineralisation. Early surface results have been encouraging: a 700-metre zone of outcropping copper with grades of up to 69.6% copper and 2,030 grams per tonne silver points to a geological setting capable of hosting significant deposits.
Despite that, much of the ground remains largely unexplored, a gap that O’Donovan frames as an opportunity in a world increasingly short of new copper supply. “ There’s only one fundamental metal that’s going to fuel all that, and that’s copper. The structural demand surge from artificial intelligence infrastructure, data centres and electrification are the forces driving the long-term investment case,” said O’Donovan. In addition to its primary asset, Kaoko Metals holds exposure to a copper-gold project in the Karibib Gold Belt, where limited historical drilling has produced intercepts including copper, gold and tungsten. The company can earn up to an 85% interest through a staged investment structure tied to exploration milestones.
With permitting already in place across both projects, Kaoko Metals plans to commence drilling within months of listing, with initial work focused on testing the high-grade surface mineralisation at the Kaoko project. In a market where the bar for early-stage capital has risen considerably, the combination of advanced permitting, compelling surface grades and a jurisdiction with Namibia’s stability and track record makes Kaoko’s ASX debut one to watch.
